As a therapist who specializes in trauma, grief and loss, I know this won’t land for everyone — and that’s okay.
It’s not meant to.

This is for the ones who’ve been strong for too long.
For the ones who learned to survive by staying busy, capable, and “fine.”
For the ones carrying grief and loss — not just for people, but for possibilities.

Struggling with procrastination doesn’t mean you’re lazy.

ADHD looks different for everyone—and while only a clinical psychologist can provide a formal diagnosis, many people recognize traits in themselves that feel familiar.

One of the most common things I see is masking. Masking means you’ve learned how to hide the hard parts—by overachieving, blending in, or pushing yourself to perform like everything’s fine.

For many high-performing people, that mask looks like success: the degrees, the promotions, the reputation for being “so capable.” On the outside, everything shines. But on the inside, it can feel like you’re running on fumes—constantly working harder than anyone realizes just to keep up.

And masking works… until it doesn’t.

Over time, it can lead to exhaustion, burnout, and the quiet fear that if you stop holding it all together, everything will fall apart.

If that’s you, you’re not ALONE!! You’re not failing. You’re human.
Here are a few ways to work with your brain instead of against it:

🧨Break big tasks into tiny, doable steps so you can actually start

🧨Use timers or reminders to keep track of time so it doesn’t get away from you

🧨Add something fun or rewarding to spark motivation when it’s low

🧨Work alongside someone else—even quietly—so it’s easier to stay focused

Every new attending I’ve ever worked with has one thing in common: doubt.

That first year out of residency comes with second-guessing, uncertainty, and those late-night questions of “Am I really ready?”

Here’s the truth: you’ve trained for nearly a decade (+) to get here. You know medicine. You know how to care for patients. And when you walk into that room as the attending — you belong there.

Remember — there’s a learning curve here. Of course you’re uncertain. You’re adjusting to new attendings with different personalities, learning your nurses, navigating new EMR systems, meeting new staff, figuring out call schedules, taking on new training, managing your time outside of work, and carrying the weight of decision-making — because now, you are the doctor. You’re responsible in a way you’ve never been before. So yes, it makes sense that you’re nervous. We just don’t let the nerves stop us.

And for my first‑gen and BIPOC physicians — what you’ve accomplished is even bigger than this moment. You’ve carried more, overcome more, and achieved what so many said was impossible. That deserves to be named and celebrated.

Lean on your training. Lean on your judgment. Lean on your team.

This year will stretch you, but it will also prove something powerful: you are ready.

As a trauma therapist, my work goes beyond clinical expertise. My deepest intention is to offer presence, patience, and genuine care—to hold space for vulnerability, to honor each person’s story, and to meet them with compassion, exactly as they are.

For me, radical genuineness simply means showing up as my full, human self—honest, present, and real—so others feel safe enough to do the same.

I believe healing happens in the small, human moments—when someone feels seen, heard, and understood. When empathy and genuineness meet, that’s where transformation begins.

♥️Emotional intimacy is that feeling of being truly seen, understood, and safe with someone—it’s about sharing your inner world and knowing it’ll be met with care. But if someone is emotionally immature (meaning they avoid tough feelings, can’t handle vulnerability, or struggle to empathize), it’s almost impossible to reach that level of closeness.

▫️Step outside and listen to the natural sounds around you, letting yourself be present.

▫️Pause before bed, put your phone away, and enjoy a few moments of quiet before sleep.

Taking breaks, embracing quiet moments, and honoring your need for downtime are all powerful ways to care for yourself.

You deserve to feel restored, inspired, and whole. 🖤

These writers were a breath of fresh air; their characters were so different from the ones depicted in my Honors and AP English classes. For the first time, I saw stories and people that felt real and familiar.

They opened the door for voices like @tamikanewhouse, @ashleyantoinette, @iamnikkiturner, @kennedyryan1 @angiethomas, and so many more who took Black storytelling to new heights.

Let’s make sure we show up for Black women, just like we do for everyone else. They deserve to be seen, valued, and protected—no exceptions.
